Suunto

Suunto was formed in 1936 by Tuomas Vohlonen. The Suunto Watch that came as a result of the original innovation started off as a modest product. The Suunto Watch product is considered to be very accurate and also very strong as evidenced by the Suunto Vector. Unfortunately Suunto’s founder Tuomas Vohlonen died in 1939, but Suunto continued on and became more popular over the years. One of the main catalysts for making the Suunto Watch more popular was the army. Watches like the Suunto Vector were in high demand by the army.

Suunto Watch

In 1944, Suunto supplied the Finnish Army with over 100,000 compasses. After the war was over Suunto really started to look toward the international market. The company started out exporting compasses and in 1952 Tuomas Vohlonen’s widow sold Suunto. Suunto continued to export compasses through the 70’s. In the 1980’s, the Suunto Watch became popular with the Suunto Vector being one of the most popular watches for Suunto.

Suunto Vector

In 1997, Suunto launched the world’s first Suunto Watch with a dive computer, followed closely by the launch of the Suunto Vector. These were ground breaking watches as this new generation of the Suunto Watch operated using sensors. The Suunto Vector was particularly popular.
