Wrist Watches

The Earliest Wrist Watches were made in the 1500’s, were mostly the Man’s Watch. Wrist Watches of this era often called Antique Watches were needed for timekeeping. The earliest known watch was made in 1524. More Wrist Watches appeared on the scene in the middle of the century around 1550. These Wrist Watches were thought to be of European origin. In this time period, Wrist Watches were making tremendous advancements in innovation and function. Wrist Watches although significantly different from Watches available later were pretty advanced for Antique Watches.

Antique watches

These Wrist Watches are considered Antique Watches today even though they were making very rapid advancements. The Antique Watches started out being inaccurate, and over time, these Antique Watches progressed from having just an hour hand to having a minute hand. The steel used to make these Antique Watches was not as refined today resulting in a variety of problems with the Antique Watches. Watchmakers continued experiments to increase the accuracy of Antique Watches.

Man’s Watch

Most of these Antique Watches were for men and were considered a Man’s Watch. The Man’s Watch really became the standard for Women’s Watches and was the basis upon which Women’s Watches were made. The Man’s Watch was certainly very different then than it is today. Today the Man’s Watch is more of an indicator of wealth than a very accurate timepiece. Most people wear a Man’s Watch to catch the attention of others or simply make a statement.
